Vehicle valuation manager at mycarcheck.com, Stuart Wilson, said: “As the second-hand electric vehicle market matures, the Renault Zoe is emerging as one of the most popular choices. The claimed 186-mile range means many owners only need one charge per week and the Dynamique Nav trim incudes sat nav, auto headlights, seven-inch touchscreen and much more. Although there’s still uncertainty surrounding some battery lease agreements, there’s plenty of evidence to give buyers confidence. With five-year-old examples now available for under £10k, the Zoe is well worth considering if you’re looking to go green. As always, be sure to do a comprehensive provenance check before buying.
As to market trends, Wilson said: 2019 was another tough year for new car sales with Brexit frequently touted as a significant factor. January 31st will see us finally leave the EU and hopefully this will bring some much-needed clarity and an upturn in fortunes. The most noteworthy trends are the increases in alternatively fuelled vehicle (AFV) sales and the huge drop in diesel sales. As we move into 2020, expect to see a big push for electrification with new products from all the major manufacturers. It promises to be another very interesting year for the automotive industry.
On the motorbike, scooter and moped sector, mycarcheck.com’s Mark Field said: “The eagerly anticipated MY20 Ducati Streetfighter V4 will appear on UK roads later this year, so with that in mind let’s take a look at the previous generation. The exotic Italian beauty first graced our shores in 2009 and was a breath of fresh air. The idea of a naked 1098 was inspired and the aggressive styling complimented by the mighty 155hp V-twin engine created an absolute hooligan of a bike. They cost £12,095 new and decent early examples are now changing hands for £6,500-£7,500. Ducati full service history is a real plus and, as always, check the history before you buy.”
As to market trends, Field said: “Despite particularly weak new bike sales in December, the industry finished the year 1.5% up on 2018. Given the political upheaval this is a solid performance and encouraging as we head into 2020. Hopefully the country can regain some fiscal confidence and consumers will start to loosen those purse strings. The used market has remained impressively stable over the last few years, although the low new vehicle registration figures – and resulting lack of trade-ins – has made life difficult for dealers. With the new Euro 5 emission standards coming into effect there’s likely to be extensive pre-registration activity and potentially some generous discounts in the months ahead.”
